I enjoyed the story told by Jason Cheek. It had some good world building and several promising characters. The protagonist had an admirable philosophy and his powers, while spread on a little thickly, were explained logically and consistently.

Unfortunately the book is desperately in need of editing. Regular grammatical errors, (E.g. "Using their legs, they managed to shove the body over the gunwale using their legs."), over-use of a handful of adjectives, (everything happens "suddenly" and one monster was always described as "humongous"), and simple misuse of words, (E.g. used "invent" in place of "advent"). And, my personal favourite among young authors, using the word "literally" in place of "figuratively'... "The glowing eyes filled him with a mixture of fear and awe that literally rooted him in place for several seconds." Sorry for the rant.

Normally I would have tossed this novel aside in disgust, due to the frequent jarring errors and consistent level of hyperbole, but the story was good enough to keep me engaged. Keep writing Jason. As you polish your skills, nothing will distract your readers from the adventure.

P.S. We never got to see Ironwolf transform. I expected a mano a mano battle between his battle form and the pit demon.

This was one of those compelling books that I just couldn't put down. Compelling story, developed characters without being long winded, and great transitions between scenes. Thanks!!!
I enjoyed the book immensely. It was not perfect but it did take me into another world and was detailed enough that i lost myself. That is what you want out of a good book, to be able to immerse yourself in a story.

I highly recommend this book and I am eagerly waiting for the next book
Jason Cheek has written an awesome introduction to a new level of reading adventure storyline. I recommend anyone who wants a great read to start here. Thank you from a new fan.
A very good story well told and entertaining.The fight scenes are epic fun and remind the reader of playing an MMO they are like video game fight scenes and are mad fun to read.Both the characters and the world are well thought out and have great potential. The story concept is also not over done and i will go as far as to say unique. Jason has acomplished something many of us fantasy fans only dream of he created a world of his own, while working full time -respect.
Wow!! I picked up this book not thinking to much about it ,but as I started reading it I COULD not put it down!!! The WAS engaging in so many ways from the characters and the world he masterly put together was awesome.I saw how he thought out the action so it could be believable .I wanted to stand by him and help fight against the evil that he was fighting.The honour and courage was written with great care for the story line.Thank you Jason for the ride and I will starting the next book today God BLESS !!!
An interesting sci-fi story with constant actions and approachable characters. I do recommend reading this, but it does have several drawbacks. The plot skips around in place and time making it difficult to follow. There are simple, glaring issues such as verb tense mistakes and incorrect words used, like your for you're, that hamper the pace. The book needs reader editing more than just spell checking. The weakness for me was there was no explanation for the various powers and magic elements reducing the credibility for me. That might not bother others.
Overall, I enjoyed reading it.
What really stuck out to me about this book was the unique way that he brought together religion and magic. He combined the two in a way that actually made sense, which was mainly due to the fact of the detail he went into describing how this worked. This is hard for me to word without actually giving away what happens, but this book helped me understand how a major religion could be formed and how magic could fit into that whole scheme.
There were just a few things that bugged me. First of being the acceptance of the religious magic by the people so readily. If I were to have a person teach me how to heal the human body through prayer, I wouldn't have remained as calm and cool as the women did who learned it. I would be trying to teach everyone I could and tell everyone I could all at the same time. Then there is the fact that this is the first book in the series. There is way too much past stuff to just dive in like that. There needs to be a prequel when he's finished off the series or I will be seriously upset. One of the most attracting characteristics in a book, to me, is the character development. The character development allows the reading to become attached and have an emotional understanding of what the person has been through. You don't get that with this book because he skipped over all that. (I'm going to feel incredibly dumb if I'm reading the second book right now instead of the first, but I'm pretty sure I'm not)

The good things about this book were the consistently good action scenes that helped add to the I don't want to put this book down factor, which this book had an abundance of that characteristic. As a 16 year old male with a mild case of ADD, the book was captivating enough that I didn't want to do something else. I wasn't distracted by some random noise, and to me this speaks loads about this book. It really keeps ones attention and doesn't let go. Also the combat detail he goes into is very good in my opinion, although a little bit more creativeness would make it more interesting, and it goes into enough detail about the events that unfold and gives just enough creativeness that you don't get overwhelmed by all that's going on and you have to really concentrate to figure out what he's saying.

I'm really looking forward to reading the next book that comes out and if it is on the same level as this one then I'll be happy and will have a book I don't want to put down, but I think that he has great potential with this story and he could truly make his second piece a masterpiece. Mostly though I'm looking for the prequel because I haven't yet gotten to the point where if the protagonist died I'd be truly shaken up and sad over it and I know with a prequel I could attain that attachment.
