This is a fun adventure that mid to late elementary school kids (particularly boys) will thoroughly enjoy. If teachers still read aloud to their classes, this would be a great candidate and should engage the class and spark conversations. It very much seemed to me like what would have happened to Max from the Wild Things if he had been older and the wild things had been much wilder...Max in this book is also a delightful boy who clearly loves his family despite his propensity to bend the rules. The working together with friends and trying to keep his own family and friends safe is endearing and definitely would make for good discussion with kids. I have three sons who are all older than this books' target audience, but it is the kind of book they would read and I would read along with them and then discuss. I hope there are other moms out there who do this with their sons!
It seemed to take a little long to get going....but once it did, full speed ahead!

Perfect for fans of Ransom Riggs and Maryrose Wood.</b> Max’s village is absolutely normal in every single way and on every single day— except Wednesday.</i> Most of the townsfolk shutter their windows and lock their doors to hide away from the many peculiar things that happen—things like cats getting stuck in the vacuum cleaner and birthday cakes meeting fiery and horrific ends. The Wednesdays Julie Bourbeau Jason Beene 9780375868900 Books Reviews
I stumbled across this at the library and decided to give it a try.
She left it open for a sequel and I sincerely hope she writes one!
I don't like spoilers in reviews, so will try to avoid them.
This book is just as entertaining for a "grownup" as it is for children.
The characters are both endearing and entertaining. The plot has a few moments of stagnation, but it is to develop a character or something that is going to happen latter. You aren't "left sitting" for very long, and when you are in the slower parts, it's still whimsical. Usually there is a nice even flow of suspense/conflict and the dread/chill factor. Something very eerie and dangerous is going on in this town and only the kids seem to understand the full depth and magnitude of it. It reminded me a bit of the children's books I've read by Rahl Dahl--the characture adults vs. the brave kids who ask questions and find adventure right under the grownup's noses. I'm not sure why nobody else thought it deserved five stars--I read slow, but finished this in a day because I could not put it down AND was sad to see it end.
I was going to buy this for my 10-year old niece for Christmas, but thought it was a bit scary for her. If your children were frightened by "Coraline" or "Goose Bumps Books", I would WAIT.
This book was so lame.you want to read a good book read dead city
The book rocks.you have to read both.
Great book! Loved it! Very interesting, funny, and suspenseful. I would recommend this novel to a middle reader who liked the N.E.R.D.S. books!
I liked the Wednesdays it's ok, but every time I read it, it kept getting more and more childish. but it was ok like I said >.<
this book was great! as soon as I started reading it I couldnt stop reading it.I would definitely recommend it.
Loved this book! Totally recommend it. Well written and interesting
This is a simple and short review of a fantastic book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. As a reading specialist I found this book to be well-written, entertaining, and engaging for both boys and girls. I would highly recommend it. It is definitely going on the shelf as one of my new all-time favorites. Love the characters and the character development throughout the story.
